| I am the mother of two beautiful breastfed
babies. With my first child, nursing was new and awkward. I knew
it was the best thing for my baby, but often times I resorted
to pumping and feeding him breast milk through a bottle anytime
we were out in public. I wanted a way to feel confident nursing
my baby in public, while being able to effortlessly maneuver
without exposing myself to the world. I searched for a nursing
cover that would allow me to do just that. I couldn’t find
what I wanted, and resorted to buying an ugly navy blue, cheap
looking, thin nursing cover that barely covered a breast. I became
more and more frustrated that there wasn’t anything out
there that was practical, yet chic. By the time I was expecting my second child,
I thought for sure that someone would have designed an affordable,
stylish, and practical nursing cover, but I searched to no avail.
This time I turned my frustrations into being productive. I enjoy
sewing, so I decided I was going to create my own and have it be
everything that I would want: modish, affordable, and easy to use.
I pulled out my sewing machine and got to work. I went through
several different designs before settling on this one which is
everything I wanted, so I knew it would be everything any nursing
mom would want.
After making one for myself and for several friends
as gifts, I couldn’t believe how many people were asking
where they could get one. I constantly was told that I needed to
make a website, and I thought to myself, “I should”,
but never did. I decided to turn my “I should” into “I
am” and here is the birth of my efforts.
The demand for our product is starting
to spread and I have now enlisted the help of my sister, Kathryn
Garcia, who is also a nursing mother of two, to help in the
creation of The Mother Cover. She has been as dedicated as I
contributing
her time, support, and ideas; she is an invaluable asset to
the company.
Please, if you are struggling, check out our resources
page to find the support that you need. There were many days
and nights I thought that I couldn’t go on nursing one
more day, but I did, thanks to many supportive friends and family.
Please check out our resources page, or post a question on our
bulletin board if you need support or encouragement.
I welcome any questions or feedback you might
have, and I sincerely hope that with The Mother Cover, you will
find confidence and pride in your decision to breastfeed. So many
mothers out there stop breastfeeding for one reason or another,
and I sincerely hope that you will cherish the beauty and importance
of the best gift you can give your baby.
All our best, happy nursing,
Erica Herrera and Kathryn Garcia
